Set the boundaries.
Name the page, permitted changes and expected result before work begins.
Use a preview when available.
Test in staging where the site supports it. Without staging, keep the change narrow and protect live customer data.
Know what you can restore.
Code history, database backups and uploaded files have separate recovery needs. Preserve live orders and submissions.
Check the live result.
After release, open the changed page and test it. If a write times out, inspect the current state before retrying.
